Nigel Crisp

Trainer

Nigel Crisp Nigel loves cycling so much he smiles all the round - especially on climbs

Nigel has very kindly volunteered to help train us, taking us out for long rides in the countryside and generally advising on all things cycling related. We just aren't sure how long it will be until he can no longer keep up... my money is on March.

As a keen cyclist Nigel regularly takes part in long distance Audax events such the 105km Suffolk Coastal. This experience will be valuable for us as we are planning to cycle that distance every day for a month!

We all know Nigel through Boys' Brigade, apart from Daniel and Matthew who mainly know him from being their Dad. Nigel joined the BB at the tender age of 14 and eventually became Captain 25 years later - now that's commitment. He was CO of the summer camp for 19 years and since retiring in 2002 has become an almost mythical figure among the campers and officers. Although camp has been 'under new management' for nearly 5 years Nigel's legacy still lives on; including Tent Inspection (featuring super-strict inspecting officers who can spot a piece of thread in the grass from 10 paces), being far too cheerful at 7am, the ever-entertaining camp concert and wearing shorts even in the rain.

Nigel, a former British Telecom engineer / manager, now works at Brampton Manor School in East Ham as something important that requires a suit. Unfortunately he can't get leave during school holidays otherwise he would be listed under 'Cyclists' instead of 'Training'. Working at Brampton gives Nigel the opportunity to indulge in his favourite hobby - lighting. Not just any old lighting, this is stage lighting for amateur dramatics, dance and music shows put on by the talented students (and sometimes teachers) at the school. As soon as there is even the slightest rumour of a show being planned Nigel will have the dates in his diary and will be consulting the rest of the NDSM Lighting team about leaving work early / running home from college to help out on the followspots. Endless energy, enthusiasm, lighting gels and commitment ensures every show looks the part.
