Backup support vehicle driver

After years slumming it with the rest of us in east London Simon finally got out and left for the, err… gold streets of Bristol and the University of the West of England. There he continued the education that began at the same secondary school as two other members of the group, Brampton Manor with A-Levels at Havering sandwiched in between.  He’s studying Aeronautical Engineering but is currently participating in his ‘industry’ placement year; hence he is unavailable for the whole of this trip.

He does however promise that he’ll join us for a part of this trip and complete his first bit of exercise in two years - he retired from competitive football aged 21, although he has not ruled out a comeback. He still follows the sport though, an avid supporter of West Ham, the lucky guy got free tickets to last years FA Cup final to see them lose on penalties to Gerrard FC (that’s Liverpool to the less football knowledgeable people out there).

Simon only came to the country aged 12 after spending a large proportion of his early life living in Nepal (where his sweet younger brother was born) due to his father who was working for international charity BMS at the time. His vast experience of other cultures will surely prove invaluable in not offending the locals.

Simon has also been an ever present feature at camp since he first started going aged 13, and has been justly rewarded for his reliability in recent years, trusted with such tasks as, ‘getting our food from the shops,’ and of course setting up and dismantling site on the advance and retreat parties.

Currently based near Cardiff, while he completes his placement year with General Electric, he still finds time to nip back to Bristol to drive a bus. So he will have no problem with the support vehicle if he is called into action.
